The Venus Flytrap is the world's most iconic carnivorous plant, famous for its jaw-like traps that snap shut to capture prey. Each trap has sensitive trigger hairs on its inner surface; when touched repeatedly, it closes within seconds. This adaptation allows it to thrive in nitrogen-poor soils by digesting insects.
This fascinating plant demands specific care but rewards growers with its unique, active feeding mechanism. It is a protected species in the wild.

Care Guide
Light
Requires very bright, direct sunlight (at least 4-6 hours daily). Grow lights are highly recommended for indoor cultivation.
Temperature
Thrives in warm summers (20-35°C / 68-95°F) and requires a winter dormancy period (3-4 months at 0-10°C / 32-50°F) to survive long-term.
Water
Only use distilled water, rainwater, or reverse osmosis water. Keep the soil permanently moist via the tray method (standing water 1-2 cm deep). Tap water is fatal.
Soil
Must be a nutrient-free, acidic mix, typically a 1:1 blend of sphagnum peat moss and perlite/silica sand. No fertilizer or regular potting soil.
Pet Friendly
Non-toxic to cats and dogs. While not meant for eating, it poses no poisoning risk. The small traps are harmless to pets.
