The Cape Sundew is one of the most popular and beginner-friendly carnivorous plants, native to South Africa. It forms a striking rosette of long, narrow leaves covered with glistening, red-tipped tentacles that secrete a sticky mucilage. This "dew" traps insects, which are then digested by the plant to supplement nutrients from poor soil.
This fascinating plant is an excellent entry into the world of carnivorous flora, offering both beauty and a captivating insect-trapping display with minimal special care beyond its water and soil requirements.

Care Guide
Light
Requires very bright, direct sunlight (at least 4-6 hours daily). Insufficient light results in poor coloration and weak growth.
Temperature
Adaptable to typical indoor temperatures (10-30°C / 50-85°F). Can tolerate light frost but prefers warmth. Appreciates cooler nights.
Water
Always use distilled water, rainwater, or reverse osmosis water. Keep the pot sitting in 1-2 cm of standing water at all times (the tray method). Never let it dry out.
Soil
Must be a nutrient-free, acidic mix, such as pure sphagnum peat moss or a 50/50 blend of peat and perlite/sand. Never use regular potting soil.
Pet Friendly
Non-toxic to pets. While not meant for consumption, the plant poses no chemical poisoning risk. Its sticky leaves are harmless to curious pets.
