Drosera spatulata, commonly known as the Spoon-leaved Sundew, is a small, rosette-forming carnivorous plant with a widespread distribution. Its distinctive spoon-shaped leaves are covered with numerous red-tipped, sticky tentacles that glisten with mucilage. This "dew" effectively traps small insects, which are then digested to supplement nutrients from poor soil. It is known for being adaptable and one of the easier sundews to cultivate.
This hardy and attractive sundew is an excellent choice for beginners in carnivorous plant gardening, offering continuous insect-trapping action with relatively straightforward care requirements.

Care Guide
Light
Requires bright light to develop vivid red tentacles. It thrives in several hours of direct sunlight (morning sun is ideal) or under strong grow lights.
Temperature
Adapts well to a range of temperatures (10-30°C / 50-86°F). It can handle brief temperature variations but prefers stable, warm conditions. Some forms may require a mild winter cool-down but often grow year-round.
Water
Use only distilled water, rainwater, or reverse osmosis water. Keep the soil permanently moist using the tray method (maintaining 1-2 cm of standing water). Never allow it to dry out completely.
Soil
Must be a nutrient-free, acidic medium. A standard mix is 1:1 sphagnum peat moss and perlite/silica sand. Never use fertilized potting soil.
Pet Friendly
Non-toxic. Like most carnivorous plants, it poses no chemical poisoning risk to cats or dogs, though ingestion is not recommended.
