Pinguiculas or butterworts naturally live in cool (70°F-80°F or 21°C-27°C during the day and 50°F-60°F or 10°C-15°C at night), nutrient-poor areas, where they catch their own food using their sticky leaves. Many pinguiculas are lithophytic, meaning they naturally grow on stones, preferably limestones. As a result, pinguiculas don’t like soaked, deep, poorly ventilated soil. A shallow pot with moist granular soil or sphagnum moss is perfect for them. For lighting, most pinguiculas prefer bright, indirect light between 4500 lux and 7500 lux, meaning they enjoy anywhere in the house that you can read a book without artificial light! When you water them, try to use distilled water or rain water to prevent mineral build-ups to harm the plant.
